Hi.

I am looking at purchasing a ?1961 D7.
No V5, no registration number.
Has anyone any experience how to get it dated and re-registered with the DVLA?

JulianS

Look at Machine Registration on the BSAOC site. It tells you how to do it.

And of course the bantam owners club.
Lots of help and guidance.
You can always ring dvla and go through the various options and speak to someone , I've always found them very helpful

Would they be who I need to speak to to get a dating certificate?

I joined the bantam owners club when I needed guidance and help registering my bantams.
The dating officer Tim was very helpful indeed.
But also, as mentioned , I did have discussions with the dvla , who were very helpful , sending me forms and chatting etc , all of which were needed in the process of creating an age related registration number.
You might have someone visit you eventually to verify the bike's frame numbers and engine numbers.
The bike must be complete and roadworthy as part of the process , not a pile of dismantled parts.

The process of applying to the DVLA for an age related number is usually quite straightforward.

Get dating evidence from a Club, for instance use the link I posted above for the BSAOC. They assist hundreds of owners to obtain an age relate number in the course of a year.

If you apply to the BSAOC and your bike is OK you will get a dating certificate for your information, a vehicle report to send to the DVLA, a copy of the current version of DVLA application form V55/5 and notes to assist you in completing the application.

You then send the completed application, the fee and a photocopy of your drivers licence to the DVLA. If they are happy with your application they will issue an age related number for your bike, sometimes in as little as 2 weeks.

You don't need to phone the DVLA.

I will send you a PM.

Yes, follow the procedure to the letter and you'll be OK.
Those who've experienced problems have (usually) missed part of the process.
