Evening all ...
Just rebuilding a little D7 at the moment and I am ashamed to say that I am at my wits end (!!) trying to work out how on earth I compress the fork springs so I can attach the top nut and button up the locking nut! The manual says do the reverse of the strip down, which doesn't seem to make any sense, to me at least!
Any advice would be much appreciated, I'm stripping fresh paint and skin off my knuckles and scratching my head here!
Many thanks in advance! Jan  :-\

Hi Jan,
The Bantam forks shouldn't put up too much of a struggle!
The spring should screw onto the restrictor cone and that screws into the bottom of the slider. The spring then passes through the stanchions and the oil seal holder then screws onto the top of the slider. The top scroll goes through the top nut which screws into the tapered top of the stanchion. This is done after the stanchions are passed through the yokes. The reduced flats nut then secures the spring to the top nut.
It usually goes fairly easily. The real problem comes when you try to keep the oil inside the forks!
Can you post a photo of where exactly the problem is?

Morning Stu ... hope this photo show the problem, the springs are sticking out to far for me to compress them enough to enable the top nut to be screwed into the top of the fork stanchion itself ... they were easy to get out and seem to be fully screwed home, hope the photo helps?
I'm at a loss as I know this should be fairly simple!! Again, manthanks in advance with any advice!
I cannot attach a photo for some reason, but if I eventually can, you can see the springs stick out of the top of the top fork yoke by about 4 to 5 inches, making it impossible to compress the springs to screw on the top nuts ...

You will need no weight on the front end. The forks will need to be fully extended.

Jan

Ah, this maybe the issue, fully extend the forks, that did not occur to me at all, being hidden inside the cowling! Many thanks, I shall try this and let you know how I get on!
