Good afternoon! I have a BSA M20 motorcycle with a very interesting configuration. Who wants to help me with my questions? )) 1. What do you think is this model, the WM20 of 1939? The numbers on the frame and engine are erased. I measured the engine capacity at 500 cc. 2. Why are the wings from the M20 Deluxe model on the motorcycle? 3. Have you ever seen moldings on the wings or is it handmade? The moldings are made very well. 4. Why is there a handlebar support from the M20 Deluxe model on this motorcycle? 5. Did the factory make metal plates for the emblem on the gas tank? 6. Is the rear panel under the original number or from another model, or handmade? 7. There is no rib on the front wing, and there is a rib on the rear wing. Thank you very much if you give me an answer.

It looks like a mixture of parts. The remains of the frame number could be KM20 or WM20 but no numbers started with 007. The front saddle mounting that is attached to the rear tank mount which is the early type was revised in early 1940. the engine has a military inspectors acceptance stamp just under the tappets and the plug for the mag pinion indicates 1939/40.

I can't see the gearbox but the hand change lever looks home made and the 6 spring clutch is wrong (they were fitted with the Empire Star single spring clutch). they never had a hinged tail piece on the rear mudguard. Rubber mounted handlebar is correct for a 39/40 deluxe, but if the speedo drive is on the left side hub? then that would indicate the later 1940 onward forks and wheel. Ron

Thank you very much for your reply! And what can you say about the shiny circles on the tank and the shiny moldings on the wings? Have you seen them before on other BsAs?

It looks like someone has made provision for round tank badges. I've no idea what the moldings are on the mudguards? maybe someone's idea of decoration? Ron

I'm thinking now which model to make of it in 1939: M20 Standart, M20 Deluxe or M20 military?  I like Deluxe better, but then I'll have to change the gas tank. But most likely I will make the M20 Standard and change the mudguards to short ones. Sincerely, Yuri.
