Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a silencer for my 1968 Starfire.

The current one (Armours I believe) is way too loud. I've heard that Fekd also sell a loud one, so probably not going there.

I've tried one of those end baffles, and the noise was reduced nicely, but the bike wouldn't rev past 3000 rpm. It just coughed and spluttered due to the restriction in flow.

I think I need something with the silencing built in, without restricting flow. Probably something just like the original ones BSA fitted.

So if anyone can suggest a quieter silencer, that would be great🙂

Cheers,
Gary.

Maybe I'm getting no answers here as no-one has ever found a sensible silencer?

I've called many suppliers and they all say (under pressure) that their silencers don't do much silencing, and that most customers prefer the noisy ones.

I'm certain the Starfire didn't come out of the factory making this ridiculous amount of noise!

I would love to find an original silencer, but I feel that's going to be extremely unlikely.

I bought a length of steel perforated tube , welded a plate on the end to force the exhaust out sideways , split it along its length to give it a bit of spring to then push into the downpipe and project into the silencer itself .
Worth a go

Have you tried moving the end baffle to the incoming side or even the front pipe
