Hi Folks,

The C15 is still not starting since my last post.  Any bright insights?

The plug is sparking when out of the port.  I can see it.
I've opened the carb and unblocked the jets
The fuel has been in the can for a few weeks but it smells fresh.
The plug is wet with fuel after kicking over.
The engine hasn't been open since it last ran, so timing shouldn't be an issue.

I thought that I might buy some Easy Start and some super fresh fuel before I try again.

Before someone asks, not so much as a kick or a spluter.
The battery was freshly charged.
Compression shouldn't have changed but it is making the right sort of noises on kicking over.

If the plug gets went it suggests fuel is getting that far. I use easy start if there doen't seem to be any fuel getting through as that usually confirms you're getting a spark at approximately the right time.

It is frustrating!

My chief problems have been fuel degredation and sludging up of airways/jets with machines left standing with modern E petrol sitting in them.

It goes without saying that you know that your timing is correct (if points they must be clean and gapped correctly with a working condenser).
LT connections on coil must be clean and tight.  Plain HT copper core and non-suppressed HT cap
New plug.

What's your starting procedure/whar are you doing to start it? Ticking the carb, choke etc etc? You might be flooding it perhaps?

Barnsey

Procedure wise,  tickle the carb till fuel starts to come out of the button.  Ignition on.  Check the current on the gauge, needle twitching.  Turn the engine over on the kick start until I reach compression, then let the lever return and kick.

If fresh fuel and Easystart doesn't work I might be checking the points, but I was hoping to avoid this.  They shouldn't have changed anyway.

You may wish just to change spark plug ,it may be sparking but check isn't spackling from electrode to earth pin , not sparking from inside the ceramic, just a thought Roy

OK,  Easy Start, Fresh fuel, new spark plug, then timing

Spend 3 quid on a ht neon tester.
This goes onto the plug and ht lead onto the tester.
At least you can see if it's sparking under compression.
Dare we assume the ignition timing is correct ?
Has it ever run in your possession ?

Kernowpete2

Have you tried taking it just past top dead centre/easing it over compression before you kick?

I feel I am repeating myself a little, but, just to be clear, the bike ran OK prior to replacing the loom.  That is all I have done.  I have volts on the coil, although it is a little low, maybe 4 to 5 V rather than the full 6, but I am seeing a spark on the plug when it is out of the engine, on the HT lead.  I've unblocked the jets and I'm seeing fuel on the plug, so there is fuel getting into the cylinder.

If the voltage to the coil is low that will give you a weak spark which can be blown out under compression. Run a wire from the battery direct to the coil then try.

Okay, good plan, I'll do that.  Thanks!
