so yesterday i swapped oil tanks. had to take the back wheel out .

did it, no issues as far as i was aware. put everything back together, no issues or as i thought.
didnt check anything last night cause i'd had enough by then.

so this morning just before setting about the exhaust system, i looked round my handy work and everything was where it should have been.

then i spun the wheeel and click click click. the faster i spun the wheel the faster the clicks.

wasnt the chain as i split it and removed it so i didnt disturd the chain adjuster setting. couldnt see anything interfering with anything.

took the wheel out again and put it back in and still that clicking.

did you ever, when you were kids peg a playing card to your bike frame so that when you were riding it it made a clickety click noise? well thats the noise its making.

the wheel seems a little hesitant so spin freely

any ideas or what didnt i do/check for?

Hi,

If the clicking has only occurred since changing the oil tank/tool box it is likely to be connected to this.  Are there any witness marks on the tyre to indicate anything catching?  Try spinning the wheel whilst out of the frame to eliminate bearing noise.

Dave.

i moved the wheel as far back in the swing arm.. it was definately not catching on anything. it was within the wheel from what i could feel as far as vibrating goes

the oil tank and toolbox are in front of the mudguard so the cant be fouling the wheel..

looks like its coming off again and my new extra big hammer will come into play

Is the chain running true, if the two sprockets are not inline you could get a clicking as the sprocket teeth hit the chain side links.

Hi,

Does slackening the brake off make any difference?

Dave.

rhyatt

any spokes loose

speedo drive (if from rear wheel)

cornishbob

spokes would have been loose before the wheel come off. it was only off for 3 hours (including dinnertime) leant against the wall

If the chain is off and not speedo and it is rotational clicking,
Could you remove the rear wheel and support the spindle ends on bricks and then rotate it out of the bike
See if it is something in the wheel on its own

I have have bearings make noises
Maybe even remove the brake plate and spin wheel

cornishbob

the wheel wasnt 'clicking' before dismantling , leant against the wall . re assembled with no problems. wierd.

will be taking it out again to have a good look

cornishbob

have you ever had one  those 'you plonker rodney' moment?

well i did this morning doh!!

so i had a clickety clicking after i had re assembled the back wheel and you guys offered numerous possibilities. you were all WRONG!!!

so i had been looking for something whilst at the back on the right side of the bike. couldnt find anything untoward. sleepless nights and calls to the samaritans ensued. vallium was the sweets of the day.

TODAY......

i was putting the battery carrier on. i was up close and personal.. as i was fiddling the chain which i had drooped over the swingarm was in the way. i was messing around with the rectifier but thats anothe story.

so i moved the chain and in turn moved the wheel. click click and the mudguard moved, only slightly but it moved.

what i did or how i did it i dont know bur the bottom left corner of the muddie (aluminium) got bent. whether some itinerent did it whilst i was in having a coffee i dont know but it did. it was just and just touching the tyre. no witness marks nothing , zilch.

its amazing that that slight movement made such a noise. i didnt use anything just finger and thumb and all was quiet

silence is golden

EDDIE SIMPSON

wow bob , what a palaver .

cornishbob

palaver it was. my own stupid fault
