my son is getting fed up with his B40 rebuild now, the wheels are causing problems and has bought and sent back multiple items from different places, the bike was a import , we think an ex flat tracker from America..thoughts please.

the 7" full width hub has been powder coated  and has the number 40-6015 cast on it, apparently B40, B40ES and C15.
the latest rim he has bought is brand new and 41-6006 , supposedly B40 front and rear, from classicbikeshop.

his latest spoke purchase came from Devon Rim Co, who have told him they think it looks like a C15 hub.

what are your thoughts, is the 40-6015 a cast number machined to an unknown number which would define B40 or C15?

an option being , if someone has a decent pair of wheels he might be interested.

It appears to be a B40 rear hub and the rim also looks correct. Does he know what the wheels offsets are to enable him to rebuild the wheels?

the local mx shop is doing the rebuild for him, we have known them for years and they know the offsets, the problem apparently is the nipples fall through the rim, previously the spokes were the wrong diameter. I had asked on a previous thread about spoke size.
this is the second rim and second lot of spokes He has bought and had to return, hence my asking.
previous rebuilds have been done in Bristol but both my old contacts have since passed on.

According to my list the B40 rear spoke is part 40 6045 which is 10 gauge x 5 7/8 inch long.

The front spoke part 42 5848 which is butted 10/8 gauge x 5 91/16 inch long.

Both with rim 41 6006.

Getting hold of rims and spokes for a B40 should normally be a very straightforward affair especially if you go to Devon Rim Co or Central Wheel Components. I've rebuilt dozens of wheels and never had a problem. However, it's best to buy both rims and spokes from the same source because, even if the spoke sizes are correct, I think the nipple sizes can vary.
