Hello all
I know this might be cheeky and a long shot (but you don't get if you don't ask) I'm rebuilding my forks and wondered if anyone had a seal holder tool and is close and kind enough to tighten my seal holders on for me please?
I'm in the Market Deeping area of Lincolnshire.
Thanks
Martyn

Hi Martyn,

I have one which you're welcome to borrow if you wish - I'm in North Norfolk so a bit of a hike.
However, if the threads are good and clean you might find that el cheapo rubber strap wrench will do the job just as well and won't mark the chrome.

Cheers,
Bernie

Thanks Bernie
I did wonder if the tool was more for unscrewing rather than tightening and a simple strap might do the job but it's not something that I've had to do before as it's my first rebuild.
It is quite far for me to get over to you so maybe I will see if I get anyone closer and if not I may have to buy one or do something different.

I have found that it is quite sufficient to hand tighten the oil seal holder. But I smear silicon round the threads before tightening.

Thanks idie
When I had a look at the weekend I did wonder if they could be hand tightened as when they mate with the bottoms they literally can't go any further. With a rope seal, PTFE or silicone surely that would seal the thread

PTFE works well as does silicone I have used both.

Hi Idie
Julian suggested PTFE and that's what I intend to use, not keen on silicone sealant as I get in quite a mess with it! it's just a gauge of how tight I need to get them really as I don't want to put them together and then find I've not got it right and have to strip again.
