Hi

My DVR2 regulator  is away being tested and I would like to know if it would do any harm to use the bike for a short local trip  with the regulator disconnected ?

+ earth 6v

The battery is fully charged and brake bulb is led type so theres enough power to activate brake and horn. I won't be needing any lighting.

Thanks

Matt

Yes you can, as with out the reg to energise the field windings in the dynamo it won't generate any current.

Thanks for that

Best news for a while - thanks  :D

I assumed the dynamo would be ok to run the spark without regulator ... but grateful for confirmation I won't "harm" anything else if I use it without the regulator connected in meantime until I refit the DVR2 .

Hoping to get it back from Dynamo Regulators soon after testing....

Thanks again

Matt

Yes you can but:

Makes no sense at all.

A generator/dynamo generates electricity by an armature spinning inside a magnetic field.
The regulator converts AC to DC and limits the output to protect the battery and the electrical system.

With your regulator out I assume your entire charging system is disconnected.

Just to add to (or try to avoid) confusion:
A dynamo generates DC. The regulator keeps this to the correct charging voltage.
With the regulator out of circuit (ie: all disconnected wires removed and insulated), the dynamo will continue to generate DC but this will not get used (disconnected wires) and will do no harm.
