Hello,

It is my first post here. I'm currently working on a 1965 C15F and need to remove and replace the blind layshaft bush. It was severely worn along with the layshaft end that went into it.

I've no idea how to remove the old bush. The bush itself has a closed end, so I don't think the grease method I've read about elsewhere will work. I could not find any previous posts on here about this issue.

Has anyone any experience with removing this or is there someone local to Chichester that can help?

It's the first British bike motor I've worked on although I've got a B25 as well.

Many thanks in advance.

I worked it out. Very simple, what a fool for even asking! Doh!

It went right through the case and could be tapped out from behind, I didn't realise.

If there's a bearing in a blind hole, what you need is an oven and a kettle. The oven goes on (not too hot) and the casing is in there, heating up and expanding. When it expands enough, you'll hear a 'clunk' noise when the bearing falls out on to the oven floor. Job done. The kettle? That's for making a cup of tea while you are waiting.

A freezer is helpful too. (I've done this with various roller bearings) The bearing goes in the freezer overnight, well wrapped in plastic. It contracts. The casing is popped in the oven to heat up and expand, and the cold bearing goes in ever so easy!

You'd think there'd be a special room in houses for all these useful appliances; I wonder why there isn't one?
