    I got age related for both, same registration 1 number apart. People ask if we bought them on the same day from the same garage all those years ago. Even better, because it was the first time they had been registered in this country they are transferable numbers .

Just dug out the paperwork for mine. It was back in 2012 so things may have changed a bit. However, I got in touch with:

They wrote back to say their was no evidence that VAT had not been paid and so there would be no charge but at the same time they couldn't issue a C&E386 but to send a copy of their letter to DVLA with the application.

That worked for me but, as I say, your situation may be different and processes might have changed since then.
