1965 B40 straight operating arm for the valve lifter.
Ive contacted Draganfly but they dont have stock of either the straight or twisted arm. they have no plans or dates for recieving more.
looking for either a spare one that someone has lying around or otherwise can someone draw and dimension theirs for me so that I can make one. BSA part no 41-0176 or 71-2938

Looking at the spares catalogue for my '63 B40 it gives the number as 66-1436. I've just googled that number and it comes up as a goldstar lifter! Do you know if it changed between '63 and '65? I'm happy to remove the part on mine and measure it up for you.

#2
apparently there were two versions, a straight and a twisted, hence two numbers quoted..
not uncommon for the same part to have multiple numbers, Ive bought a woodruff key for the clutch, one wassell number and 4 BSA numbers, also Ive ordered three other keys for different parts and they have all been sent and are the same as the first one I got!!
also lifter arm comes up under Bantam on a Drags search as well.

Drags have no stock for 66-1431 or 66-1436 or the two I quoted.

if you could , I will have a go at making a copy, thanks

Is that it, up in the background there?  My bike is a 1965 B40F.

If it's within my (extremely limited) capabilities, I also would be willing to help, but might need your advice on how to go about it!

Phil, the one Im rebuilding is a 1965 one also.lever/shaft is in the rocker cover between the two shafts, really easy to access, not!!

Gulp. Okay, I guess there are better ways. Thought about an ad in The Star or OBM, asking for info if not an actual part? I understand The Star has a much bigger readership than this forum, and I guess OBM might also.  There must be lots of people out there who can lay their hands on one and measure and draw it.    Phil.

Hi Chaz
Before I get the spanners out do you think the part just visible in the pictures is what we're after? In pic 0249(3) taken from the right, you can see the top of the lever with slotted screw holding the fork at the end of the cable. In pic 0254(2) taken from the left, its not very sharp, the cable adjuster is on the right, and left of centre is the top of the lever with a blob of orange gasket silicone to prevent the screw coming adrift.

Sounds like Greenfield is probably going to sort this, but just to say, Chaz, that if Greenfield's part is not the right one, and you get desperate, then I will very gladly help if I can. (Btw, early Jan is no good, as I'm moving house.)

Phil.

PS I'm guessing Greenfield is the one who has written some very good pieces for The Star recently?

Hi Chaz
Couldn't resist the spanners.
The overall length is 47.5mm, the thickness of the small/top end is 4mm, the thickness of the large/splined end is 6.4mm including raised part, the diameter of the small end is 12.5mm with 4mm hole, the diameter of the large end is 14mm ( raised diam is 11mm) with about 7.25 hole. Notice that the shaft tapers towards the thin end from 8.5 to 6.25mm and is 4.4mm thick in the middle. Think that covers everything. I think the issue is going to be making the spline or thinking of a way to lock it.

many thanks for your time Greenfield .
yes that is the part, sorry for the late reply as I work nights and was in bed .
will draw up one and see what I can do.

I have made some custom bar grips out of ally and found reamers on ebay from China at good prices, they seem to have most machining tooling so if I cant find one here will look there. bearing in mind the Indian's have the rights to BSA then maybe they will have something
