The tank is now finished and doesn't look too bad... Don't get me wrong, there's a few things that aren't quite right but hey, it's a lot nicer than when I first started, and I got to use my nice new spray gun.

I got a local friend to braze the crack thingie.....

Does this petrol pipe location look right please?

I reckon it way too close to the plug for safety.

Anything obvious that I'm doing wrong? (I've fitted the undertank rubbers)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

It is looking really good.  Do you have date in mind for the maiden ride?
The taps do look a bit close to the plugs on A65s but I have never heard of anyone catching fire.  It might be worth an elbow tail for the fuel pipe rather than a straight.  It will take the pipe away from the head and looks a bit neater.

Dave.

Thanks Dave, I like your idea.

I'll get some off ebay... (most seem to be tapered thread, but I'll keep looking)

Not sure when the bike will be finished, but it's not a long way off..... I reckon two/ three months ought to see it ready for shakedown tests.  (and I've got my licence back from the DVLA (medical reasons...(but I've stopped howling at the moon... pretty much)))

Hi,

Paul Goff does petrol tap fittings.

Durn it Dave, I've just bought a couple from ebay.....

But thanks for the help.

So the plumbing in of the fuel system will be sorted by the middle of next week, leaving the lubrication system to be finalised...

S'pose I ought to fill them full of the appropriate liquids......

Then stand back and watch em drip.....

Thanks again ....
Dave

Erm, are the Paul Goff jobbies swivel do you know Dave?

DAVE BRADY

Hi,

Yes they are.  You get them in the position that you want and tighten them up.  He has quite bit of fuel tap stuff.

Dave.

I need them to fit 5/16th pipe, which don't appear on his website, so I'm about to order two

Thanks for the info Dave.

P.S. any advice on the best jubilee clips to use for the oil pipes? I've just put oil in the oil tanks and it's coming from a number of locations, which suggests the clips aren't working very well. (I'm using plastic pipes...)

DAVE BRADY

Hi,

I would suggest proper rubbery oil pipe.  I think SRM do some and you can get the proper clips.  Pipe and clips are available from car spares places.  Plastic tube is usually OK but it does not squeeze up as well with a clip as the rubber stuff and it does become very stiff after a relatively short time.  It looks good to start with and you can watch the oil coming and going but it will discolour.
If you have upgraded to the later oil union you will need a slightly bigger bore pipe for the feed than the return.

Dave.

Thanks folks- I've ordered the clips you suggested Bess (they do look neat) and I'll look at fitting rubber pipe (where they will fit) as you said Dave....

And I've ordered the right angle 5/16 tail for the taps from Paul G......

So, many thanks for all of your help folks- as ever.

Regards,

Dave.

Finishing touches and almost ready to kick her over.....

Side panel badges: before and after.....

Quite pleased with the way the badges have turned out. (originally thought of bodging them up, but they looked so bad that I decided to treat em like jewellery and, bugger the time it took, just do em as best i could....)

No doubt they are the wrong colour but, after looking at lots of images I decided that this was as close as I could get to what I was looking at......
