I recently bought the Haynes manual for the pre-unit singles, manual 326. When it arrived I found that all the internal pages are scans of an original manual. Has anyone else come across this? I contacted Haynes and they replied:
"Hi Roger,
Unfortunately due to your source of purchase this may be the reason the manual has scanned pages in. Please contact Ebay for further enquires as we cannot control what manual's get sold on Ebay.
Thank you & Kind Regards
Fearne
On Behalf of Haynes Publishing"
I contacted the Ebay seller just a minute ago so we will see what happens.
Meanwhile, does this mean there's a thriving trade in counterfeit Haynes manuals? It seems unlikely, but...

ebay is an essential for everyone, unfortunately it also attracts undesirables.
did the listing mention 'copy' or 'reproduction' ? there are plenty of sites on the WWW that you can download and print off yourself at no charge. some come with front page changed to theirs, others have header and footer for them but others dont.
as for parts , there are a lot of substandard parts coming in from Far East and India that are poor quality and poor fit.
as always 'Caveat Emptor' ... buyer beware.
if the book is not described as a copy you should be able to get a refund from either PAypal or Ebay.

as for market... original 1st editions were around £5,  today new copies (reprints officially) can be up to £25, occasionally Halfrauds have sales , Ive picked up modern ones for between £1and £5 we bought their stock locally once and then sold them on for half price.

Hi Rog,
I had a similar experience recently with a Haynes A50/65 manual.  I returned it with comments about it being flimsy and not fit for for a workshop environment.  He informed me it was a genuine Haynes item and is made like that as part of their save paper/ the planet etc. policy.
I haven't bought a Haynes manual for decades but if this is how they're manufactured now you'd be better off looking for an old s/ h hardback version.....with authentic oily thumbprints!

The paper quality used by Haynes on their latest manuals appears to be like recycled newspaper. It is certainly not of the standard it used to be. I tend to use Haynes manuals for doing preliminary homework. If I need a diagram or instructions then I photocopy the page to use in the garage so don't care if it gets mucked up. One problem with Haynes manuals is that they often cover so many models: usually with little information about the subject I need to know about! ( eg BSA Unit Singles - very little on the B40 that's much use!). Also often contain errors as well.
