1954 C11G Plunger

Rebuilding the rear hub and this was in the box of bits- It doesn't seem to fit anywhere- is it just a random piece of tube ? or does it have an important function. The inside is neatly beveled at each end.

Thoughts please.....

Hi,
My guess is part number 29-6230, Bearing distance tube (although the original is a split tube). Fits between the bearings in the hub around the spindle.

If not it looks like a gudgeon pin.

I would say if slight tapers inside or heavy and ground diameter then a gudgeon pin, if rough outside diameter and slight rubbing to endsto the extent of bulging up the ends then the distance piece. maybe split tube but normally plain tubing.. the rusting, finish on diameter or bulging will normally be a good indicator.

Hi,
    Image to help.

Thanks guys--its not a gudgeon pin... far to big...  I think its a spacer- a bearing distance tube from the rear hub- although the drawing on Daragan fly suggests its a split tube

cheers

if as probably the case due to age, I was fitting a replacement tube I would make my own but wouldnt bother slitting it.
they do wear on the endsand are there to keep bearings apart to the correct distance to prevent distortion of the hubs so length is the main thing. if fitting solid tube, I would use grease or copperslip on reassembly to aid future removal.....prevents rusting.
