Hi, I have a 1963 A65 and I have removed the front wheel for a tyre change, My set up is differant to the manual. I have a 8ich SLS front brake but no torque arm the brake is held in place in the recess in the fork leg. Have I a later or earlier front end on my bike. All works well was curious thats all.
Cheers,
Chris.

PS is there any issues with plugging the chain oiler, do I need to vent the primary.

Bikes with frame numbers commencing A50, the Star and Rocket models had the full width brake as you describe and were made 1962-1965.

Bikes with frame numbers commencing A50B had 1/2 width hub with a torque stay and were made from 1964.

Thank you.
Do you know if the adjuster screw for the primary chain also act as a oil level indicator, just topped mine up and oil poured out of it.

No the adjuster screw is not a level indicator you should have a fibre washer between the case and the adjuster cover. One of the base primary screws is the level indicator also one is for draining. I have had the chain oiler blocked off for about 6 years now wihout any problems, originally there was just too much oil coming out of the chain oiler maybe because I was using grade 20 oil which I believe is thinner than what was originally recommended by BSA.

Hi,
My primary cover does not have the level and drain plugs as descibed in the manual only the two inspection holes for clutch adjusment.
The primary chain adjuster screw is hollow like the gearbox level tube.
any ideas anybody
Cheers,
Chris.

Hi,
     Look here ;

https://www.draganfly.co.uk/bsa/bsa/a50-a-a65/1962-63/category/188-primarycover62-63

The primary case has areas machined off the case screw hole to allow oil to pass from the case through the screw hole to atmosphere. Screw 68-233 is a oil level case screw, screw 68-234 is a oil drain case screw both using alloy or fibre washers as a seal.

Best wishes...
