Thanks very much Mr Thumper.  I thought that's how they'd be arranged but you never know with BSA!  The special shouldered bolts (40-4530) are available from CPC Engineering http://www.cpcengineering.co.uk at about £9 each.  Their website has a lot of motorcycle restorer's 'porn' on it so beware!

The dimensions of the shouldered bolt are as below.  Also the frame has now had a lot of TLC and now I have had approval for it's storage in the spare room!
