I have turned attention to my (BSA built) TR25W project.

It is the 1969 model badge engineered Starfire.  These were famously fragile - and therefore various modifications need to be done to the crankshaft to improve oiling.

I have two crankshafts - but I have no dimensions to check or any clue how to tell whether they are the early crank or the later improved crank, or an early crank that has already been improved (I should be so lucky)!

Also - the improvements all involve machining. Can anyone recommend a machinist that know what they are doing with a Starfire crankshaft, balance factors etc.

I second RTS. They did some work on my C25 years ago and it was top notch.
