M20 timing pinion nut 65-691

Hi,
I'm trying to release the timing pinion nut on my BSA M20, 1938. It seems to be tightened more than I expected. Just to be sure before I apply excessive torque. Is it left-hand or right-hand thread? Thanx a lot.
