B40 ignition timing

Help!
I know it will be something simple that I've missed but I cannot get my re-built B40 to fire.
Compression is great (rebore and new +O.060 piston). There's a strong spark yet even with brake cleaner through the carb there is nothing.
Well I say nothing; after going through the "over compression with the valve lifter then kicking it over" there is a pause then a phut and smoke back through the carb.
Have I somehow got the timing 180 out?
TIA

That does sound like 180 deg out.
Does your have the separate points or points in case?
The back plate will often fit two ways round.  Also the points cam fits on the advance and retard pins two ways.

Hi
It's a distributer motor.
I'll check on how the cam sits.  Good info about the cam and the advance/retard weights.
Thanks

Thanks everyone, we got the bike started!
Boy is it loud, very full oil return.
I was 180 degrees out, solved by pulling the distributer out, turning the tang on the end 180 degrees and putting it back in then re-doing the ignition timing.
It actually started very easily.

BUT .... then it stopped. The exhaust tappet had loosened off and the pushrod jumped out😖, my fault.

Is it worth trying to relocate the pushrod through the inspection hatch or do I need to strip more away?

Thanks

You can do it though the little hatch, its a fiddle but can be done.  Years ago a mate dropped the little screw down the  push rod tunnel.  We were getting ready for a ride so we picked the bike up, turned it upside down while he fished the screw out when it dropped down. It worked!
