So, I'm trying to get to the shifting mechanism to solve a shifting issue and I'm trying to remove the inner timing cover.  I've followed the shop manual and have arrived at the step that says to use a hide-mallet to tap the edges to break it loose.  I guess I need a bigger mallet 'cause this sucker isn't budging.  Does anyone have an alternate procedure?  I'm contemplating using heat to warm up the inner cover but I would like to get some suggestion from more experienced folks first.
Cheers

Hit it from lots of different directions. It will be glued on by gasket sealant. What you don't want is to be hitting it up against a shaft or dowl so don't keep hitting it on one direction.
Sometimes a shock will do it, use a metal hammer to hit a piece of wood.  This won't damage the case but it will give it a sharper blow.
I can't remember, can you get to the rear of the cover using a long piece off wood (like some broom handle) by reaching across form the drive side and tap the case off at the rear to unstick it?

Thank you sir, I have a wood working habit so I have plenty of wood.  Hitting from the drive side is what I had in mind too.  I'll give it a try tonight.  Cheers.

You have two places to hit the cover from the left side, the tachometer cable boss and the area where the clutch cable exits.
Presumably you have checked there are no hidden screws left in?

+1 to hidden screws, check, check and check again!

Got it! Wood block and a bigger mallet.  Thanks folks.
