Found out why I don't need any crankshaft shims...I torqued up the crankcase nuts and bolts and hae a very effective boat anchor!..locked solid. I revoed the fixings and split the case and found the large roller bering is not seated in the housing properly, guess the guy let it cool down too quickly before making sure it wasn't sitting proud in the case.
I should have noticed the oversised gap between the bearing and oil seal!!!.
70 years old and fell at the first hurdle, good job I have a nice new hepolite one ready and a full set of oil seals.
Todays bloody obvious tip..don't believe the sellers "I've fitted a new bearing so that'll save you some time".
No where did I put my blowtorch.
