Hi all,

I've just had my clocks rebuilt ready for my B44 rebuild and purchased new rubber housings.

Having not fitted them before, can anyone tell me how the bolts go on the underside?

I've bolted the four free bolts on each between rubber housing and bracket to mount the rubbers to the bike, but are the two fixed threaded rods on the back of the clock designed to pass through the rubber AND the bracket with the nuts on the end to secure the clock to them? Or do the nuts wind against the back of the clock and just sit in the recess? As my studs ain't long enough to pass through rubber and bracket and then get a nut on the end.

Also my speedo has what looks like an earth strap with two round connectors. I'm guessing this screws onto one of the rear studs (the one that matches the rubber with the cut-out) and the other end passes through underneath and bolts/earths to main bracket via the four mounting bolts?

Third and final Q - does the Rev counter also need a similar earth lead arrangement?

Thanks all!
Andrew

The two studs on the back of the speedo body are not used with the BSA method of mounting the clocks in rubber housings. Other makes mounted the clocks directly to metal brackets using these two studs. With the BSA rubber mounts the studs are redundant and don't make contact with anything.
The earth wire with ring lugs connects from one of the two redundant studs to one of the 2BA screws fixing the rubber housing to the steel bracket. You should see that the rubber around one of the screws has a channel formed through it to allow the earth cable to approach the screw sideways on.
If you want the tacho bulb to light reliably it will also need an earth wire rather than relying on the tacho cable to make the earth connection.
If you are fitting new rubber housings you should also fit the 1/4" x 1/4" steel bushes into the rubber housings where the 2BA screws fit. The screws tighten against the steel bushes and limit the amount of pinch on the rubber so it isn't distorted.

Thanks Rupert, that's exactly what I needed to know! I have 4 of those bushes, so just need to source another 4.

Thanks again!
