Hi ALL,
I am looking to tweek the timing on my C15 in the hope that it might start more easily.
It is the early version with the points in the metal mushroom on top of the engine.

A silly basic question I know, but how do I slacken it off, so that I can twist it around?
I am not seeing any screws other than the one holding the cam on.

Rupert Ratio and Haynes not helping me much on this, nor Youtube.

   Regards,

The best way to get good timing is to use a degree disc, but you can with engine running very slowly loosen this screw and turn distributor either way slowly until engine runs faster tighten screw then slow tickover on carb 👍
Be a good base to start👍
Make sure you mark with a pencil the distributor location before adjusting 👍

As pictured , it is the rearmost of the 2 screws , a 2ba thread. The early c15s were 1/16" btdc.
So you can find tdc on the compression stroke by a straw or similar down the plug hole and take the little pushrod cover off to let you see inlet rising and falling.
I use a meter on beep setting to tell me when points open and you must allow for the points being at fully advanced by rotating the cam with pliers.

Fantastic! Thanks to both of you.

That is just what I wanted to know. It would have taken ages for me to find that screw.
