I have a query regarding the A50 forks Im rebuilding.   they are the split clamp type as in the 1969 parts book.

the parts show #16  75-5088  Outer washer O ring and #17  75-5199  Fork o ring.

I cant remember seeing any when I took apart, although that was around covid time!!
do these sit on top of the top bush ? one inside the other??
I do have a larger o ring that will fit over the outer fork leg itself or inside the oil seal holder, too big for either #16 or 17.

I cant find a #8 fork spring support or #9 washer, spring support or #5 oil seal retainer but do have a #4 fork oil seal washer.

I rebuilt the forks with new bushes, seals, seal holder and an o ring. but had a leak, on stripping again, the o ring is distorted into the slot in the seal holder. The seal holder was only hand tight.

anyone have any idea about the large o ring how the two smaller ones fit and why take out the missing parts?

as for #5 oil seal retainer, should that be below the spring not above as in the picture, which might stop the o ring picking up in the seal holder slot?

having found the originals, I now see the thin o ring fits in the holder body, presumably the other fits on top of the top bush.

Ive searched a couple of dealers and they offer the parts 75-5088 and 75-5199 seem to be metal washers.
If they are metal, they will not go under the seal holder.  and how can an o ring be metal?

the other problem I now have is, the new seal holders top recess is a smaller diameter than the recessed spring carriers that Ive also found.. have to make smaller ones.

I only know about two o-rings that go in to holder , in the reces. One for each holder.
It keeps the oil in the fork leg.
75-5088 is a metal ring

75-5199 is a rubber o- ring, and above the oilseal  in the holder , a flat washer first and then spring support ring.

This drawing i found on this forum and helped me, it's a screenshot.
Discussing the nylon bush, the wide side is up.
The steel ring sits under the oilseal holder and between the upper bush.

Had bought new holders and o-rings, the rings didn't fit right, they were to big. I did use the old ones and fitted fine.

thanks Gup

its the thin o ring in the housing just above the thread. one dealer using the picture for metal washer for the o ring.

the only other washers I have are ones for taking the play/rattle out under the spring.

Correct me if i am wrong, you are missing , steel ring 75-5088?

What I can remember , it was the same O.D like the upper bush. I.D slightly bigger than bush.
Thickness? Looked like the same thickness of the flange of the upper bush.

Gup, no , well, firstly
I need new o rings.
with your information, I can not remember seeing the washers that sit on top of the top bush so will look at machining some.
the only other washers I have are bigger . Around the same diameter as the inside top spring cup and 1mm thick, I think these were for taking up any looseness in the spring.

Hello Chaz, on the drawing you can see a ring on the top of the upper bush. The o-ring needs to be at the top of the bottom fork leg , around the reces .
You might can measure it, and find out how thick the ring should be. On my picture ,you are looking at the ring in the holder.
You are right about the other rings you have, they go on top of the oil seal and protects  it for the spring.

Hopefully this helps,

one step forward, one step back!!

managed to get some new washers and o rings from a Brit spares dealer.
washer bores too small wont go down old or new stanchions, the various diameters up to 1mm undersize.
the o rings, too wide to go in the grooves and too big they stick out..

back to the drawing board.
