Can anyone tell me how to fit a square peg in a round hole?
Sorry I meant how do you reassemble the clutch centre after replacing the new rubbers.
I guess you fit the three larger rubbers first, then insert the spider, but then how do you fit the three smaller rubbers?
With difficulty comes to mind but I really need some help here?

BSA recommends using a lubricant to make refitting easier - liquid soap is recommended although the B40WD manual also suggests hydraulic fluid can be used. It should be possible to compress the rubbers that have already been fitted if necessary by levering the spider against the clutch centre.

Best way I find is to locate the Clutch hub in a vice (with something through the holes in the flange or even a dummy mainshaft that has been ground to have two flats for the vice jaws 'don't forget the key though') then drop the cush drive onto it, then using a clutch locking tool with a handle fitted you push against the handle whilst 'easily' dropping in the remaining rubbers.. Anyone got an old main shaft?

I just use a piece of flat bar with a notch in each side insread of a shaft.

I'm trying to visualize it. Do you sit the clutch centre on top of the flat bar which I presume you have locked in a vice ?

cdsdorset

Yes. Put the bar in the vice upright and drop the centre over it.

Hi,

The clutch locking tool can simply be a plain plate and a friction plate bolted together and if needed a bit of flat bar as a handle as Ian suggested.

Dave.

Ok I will have a look at the flat bar method. Thanks guys.
