Oil tank

Hello there, I'm new to the scene,, having recently bought, m21, at the moment I've been feeling my way round her, understanding how it should work, anyway it seems to run, much happier now,,fingers crossed,,
My question is, the new oil filter, won't slide down into the tank, over the tube,, open end at top, I assume, can I gently, bend the return pipe, or is that best left be , 🙃
