Hi
Has anyone used a hepolite oil pump , are they any good as all I've used is srm but their a bit hard to get hold of , there's a few hepolite pumps on eBay but if their cams are anything to go by I'm a bit hesitant in buying one
Would be great for any feed back , this is for my 1972 a65

Hi,

As you are looking for a new pump I assume that you no longer have the original pump.  Was it a cast iron one which I think was standard on your bike.  This was the best incarnation of the A65 pump and from what I have read, is at least equal to the SRM pump.  There are some reasonable comments re the Hepolite/Wassell pump but others are a bit scathing.  Hopefully someone with experience of them will comment.

I am surprised that with the reputation of Morgo, that they have only ever made pumps for Triumph and Ariel. Ive fitted both before with no problems.
no help regarding SRM as never had the inclination/money to fit one, always fitted the standard one serviced for the BSA's. New bits and faces lapped before assembly.

I believe Wassell have sold different pumps over time , the ones sold several years ago were no good at all but the ones with the Hepolite branding are ok. Cast iron pump body.

No oil pump on the bike Dave so that why I posted I prefer srm but like I said they are a bit hard to get
I'm still not sure about hepolite
But thanks everyone anyway

I asked Morgo why no A65 pump. He said that he would struggle to even regain the development /tooling cost if they made one.

 :) :) :) :)

It appears SRM batches made. If you want one and can wait, they will normally put you on the list and let you know when in stock. Getting one used ??????????? difficult.

I am surprised, Ive an account with them but never thought to ask!!
but also working in a machine shop with todays cad technology, I dont see fixturing being a problem, we knock them up every day.
I suppose its the R&D but even then , the amount of bits we have made and crank grinding and gear cutting done in the past its a lot easier today.

I assume they have costed it relative to the total number of units they would sell. I would guess there are more Triumphs out there being rebuilt.

Hi,

I think part of the reason is that Morgo specialised in Triumph tuning parts like big bore kits and the standard oil pump was a bit lacking, so making a better pump was a natural addition.
BSA A65 tuners must have considered the standard pump good enough otherwise somebody would have made them and BSA improved the standard pump over the years.  Cost and ease of fitting must have played a part as well as I  suspect that the more simplistic Triumph pump was easier to improve upon and the space available in the cases was a definite advantage.

I have used Morgo oil pumps on Ariel square 4 rebuild before, BSA took Ariel over in 1951.
