Ive just spent the morning making up a nice numberplate/rear light holder out of ally sheet, bent and then drilled to suit a nice flat LED light unit, simples, now the wiring starts....
or not.
LED lights are one direction wiring, and now the B40 is positive earth the light wont work.
the ignition circuit is wired up positive so I have to keep it now.
is there any way of converting or inverting the wiring to make use of the fairly expensive light unit, without having to cut it open and rewire the 34 led bulbs.

Hi,

Why not change to neg. earth?  I swapped on 3 bikes to use LEDs.  If I remember it was swap the leads on the battery and a bit of change on the ignition.  Do you have electronic or points?

Dave.

Can we have a photo of the light unit showing the connections please?

Dave, I was going negative but decided to stay positive, just fitted an electronic ignition. I suppose I could change it over again.
Rog, this is the link to the light, three wires yellow , red and black.

Hi,

I would be easier to go neg.earth.  The instructions for the EI will have the wiring.

Dave.

If you are using a LED bulb insulate the bulb holder and wire what would be the live feed to the LED to earth and put your live feed ie neg to the other side of the bulb.

The only way to make it work is to have the switches for both tail and brake in the earth side. This is easy enough with the brake light, more involved with the tail. Off hand, the easiest way to switch the tail light is to have the wire from the tail light switch operate a relay, which switches the earth for the tail light.

You would end up with a permanent live to the rear light, but that shouldn't be a problem.

You are right re the relay, I forgot to add that. I used a relay to operate a LED head lamp bulb.

as I said in the op, there are 34 bulbs to rewire, the headlights or single bulb type are easier as only one wire to swap.

Im going to revert back to neg earth
