My goal before the spring is to get my B31 to be a first kick starting bike.
I've got spare mag fitted with an easy cap condenser and new slip ring fitted so that's going on .
My question is I've got a tired old monobloc carb fitted and want to upgrade,so....has anyone fitted a more modern carb ie.Mikuni etc and if so which carb and model please.Ta.

Lots of recent discussions mentioning alternative carbs. I've never fitted a Mikuni but I have swapped out the monobloc for concentric Mk1s from Burlen on a couple of bikes and been happy with the result.

I think "upgrade" need be no more than fitting a decent standard carb. I have pre-monobloc and monoblocs on my BSA singles (B31, B33 M21) and found that investing in new carbs was the route to good starting. Also if you use a standard carb (or a concentric) you can use the standard setup and avoid any fiddling that may be necessary with another make.

There are plently of people who have fitted Mikunis or similar and I'm sure they can advise if you want to go that route.

Anyway, B31, a lovely bike!! Enjoy!

I second that Pete, the carb on my B31 is standard and runs fantastic.

I run a B33 and it runs fine on a Monobloc carb.

I have a B32 Competition that originally had an Amal 276 as standard and is currently fitted a with a 376 Monobloc. It invariably starts first kick, ticks over cleanly and runs well throughout the rev range. The carburation is spot on.
