Monday morning, unusual for me to be able to play. Colin with regards..
actually niticed oil in front banjo today , so something moving.
turning the crank with a socket seems reasonable for a rebuilt motor , same as yours, total new bearings , rebore etc.
the kickstart is fine with clutch pulled in , new bearings etc, the  tightness seems too be from the clutch itself, new rollers fitted. SO looks like I have to pull that apart.
Latest woe is valve clearances, 2 hours today , rocker box on/off many times as couldnt get adjusted per RR manual, so went back to Haynes and got somewhere handy.
Im seriously getting fed up with this bike, even taking rocker box off is a pain due to clearances, Im almost feeling, sump plate included, the frame is for a 250. every task is a pain.

I'm told it's part of the joys of BSA ownership where every job always throws up another problem or turns out to be more time consuming than ever thought possible.
Your frame number should identify the actual model, someone on here may be able to help with identification. Mine starts B40..... so fairly clear what it is.
As for rocker box removal I've resorted to removing the three longest studs on the offside of the engine to make it easier (read possible), but still a bit of a pain with the engine in situ.
