Pleasant ride out tonight  but then after stopping for about 30 minutes !
Started up fine , but then running very erratically with no power!
If fuel was left off it would pick up and run fine until fuel ran out!
If fuel was switched back on would run erratically and black smoke from exhaust!

I would think it was running very rich but any ideas as to why?

Had to get trailered home in the end after about an hour of trying on side of road!

Sorry should have said 1954 golden flash ?

Thanks Kev

Possibly a sunken float or sticking needle valve...?
Blockage in the airflow into the carb?

It is most likely the float which has filled with petrol and sinking. Check also the the float needle hasn't got a ridge on the tip which is stopping it from sealing. This happened on my Shooting Star a couple of years ago.

Thanks not had chance to look at it yet?

Should have also mentioned that it is a brand new carb fitted as well!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kevin,

Was this the first time out with the new carb.?
As it is a new carb. then more likely to be a bit of a blockage.  I have fitted two new carbs recently and before doing so stripped and cleaned them just in case.  I did find a very small amount of detritus in one of them.    It could still be the float or float needle as already mentioned so it is worth stripping and checking everything.

Dave.

Thanks Dave

Hopefully will get to look at it over the weekend?

If not call to burlen on Monday to see if the6 have any ideas?

Was only fitted about three weeks ago and has run perfect until the other night
