Hi to all again,
I'm hoping to convert my 1964 Rocket from 6v to 12v and I would be grateful if anyone can recommend a suitable battery that will fit in the battery carrier.
My current Yuasa battery is 128mm x 60mm x 130mm but despite scouring the web most replacements seem to big. Has anyone done this conversion and found a suitable battery? I'm not sure how much clearance there is behind the side panel.
I'd ideally like not to have to modify the carrier so if anyone has some personal experience or advice it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Clarke

Hi Clarke,

Many people will have done this conversion and it is worthwhile.  I am not sure if the battery space is the same as on the later models but there is a 12v battery that fits if it is.  So, two suggestions.
1) If the space is the same then I would suggest going for sealed AGM battery.  They can seem expensive but I have fitted a Tanya Powerline YB9-B to three bikes. As they are sealed they do not have a vent to leak on to your bike.
2) Take the battery you have to a battery supplier and ask for the best fit.  It may have slightly different dimensions but can be padded to suit.  Bike shops usually ask what it is for and then say they do not have BSA parts and often struggle to find one that matches the one in your hand.

I converted my 1963  A65 to12v and Pazon electronic ignition the battery I am using is Yuasa Y9B 12v size is 140high  135wide 75 deep I am using the original battery carrier for my model..

Thanks Bikerbob.
I'm planning to use the Pazon and the Areg rectifier/regulator, but was getting a bit stuck with the battery and was worried the side panel would no longer fit with a wider battery. If yours fits with the standard carrier then it gives me sizes to work to.
Many thanks.

I have been using MotoBat batteries for a while now and can't fault them. Will hold a charges for a very long time.
Tayna website gives physical dimensions of batteries so easy to find one that fits. Very helpful on the phone and delivery is quick.

Thanks to everyone who replied for their advice.
I've looked at Motobatt and they have one with pretty much the same dimensions as my 6volt battery.
I've used them before as well on previous bikes so might go with them.
