Indian Ammeters

 Does anyone here know if Indian ammeters work ok ?

All the ones on my bikes do. So long as the needle moves they are never very accurate. If you get one with an alloy body they are slightly larger than standard Lucas so do not always drop into the hole in standard headlamps.

If you mean ammeters for Indian Enfield bikes rather than just "made in India" then my experience is that they are very good, much better than "Lucas".  They are oil damped so don't swing about and have provision to illuminate - what's the point of an ammeter you can't read in the dark?
