Hi All
I'm working through rebuilding my gearbox and am after a bit of help.

After reassembly the box locks up solid on the bench and it's impossible to go through the gears. I've slackened the nuts and screws in the outer case and it then moves freely nd goes through the gears ok.

I've replaced the following
Layshaft and both bushes, the layshaft moves freely in the bushes.
Main shaft fixed pinion.
Selector claw and gearchange spring

The rest of the box looks ok.

Could it be that the thickness of the gaskets are binding the box up or is it possibly an alignment issue

Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

If it all works OK when you slacken the fasteners it sounds like there may be no endfloat. I'd check that the new layshaft bushes you have fitted are fully pressed/driven into the cases. It only takes a few thou to jam everything up.

Thanks Wardy
I've just been and had a look and they are pressed fully home, but I have then refitted the inner plate (without a gasket) and it nips up with just that fitted so it does look like this is the issue.
Wonder if the bushes are slightly too long.

A bit of a update
After a bit of help from Julian I have found that I hadn't pressed the fixed pinion on the layshaft on far enough, I've sorted that now and it seems to run free so hoping that's the issue.
