Hi all.

I have replaced the HT lead from the spark plug to the magneto. I cant be sure as I did not have a good look but I think the plastic threaded screw that the lead runs through did screw in all the way with no thread showing, but could be wrong.

Now only about half will screw in. I have tried many times but its always the same. I have the brass washer on the end with no wires hanging over it. Not sure if the part I see inside the pickup is a part that should move in and out ( spring loaded) but there is no movement.

Any suggestion's please.

The original Lucas pickup ht nuts have a 5/16 BSF thread.

The unbranded pattern items usually have a 13 mm thread, slightly larger diameter.

Do not know about the new "lucas" items.

The original Lucas nut is a loose fit in the unbranded pickup but the unbranded nut does not screw into the original Lucas pickup.

Do you have a mix of parts?

Hi.

Quite possibly. It was a unregister project before I bought it. The mag is a little unusual as the connection does  not go in the usual place being the Bakelite end cover, that is blanked of and the cable goes in the side of the body. I have had many B31 and 33 but never seen this before.

It was all working fine starting but just cant see why the plastic screw will not go all the way in. I have a replacement boot to go over it but will probably not cover all of the thread which makes me think it should screw all the way in

Do you know where the part inside connects to the brass washer on the end of the cable is spring loaded and should move in and out.

The end of the HT cable is not spring loaded. The copper core should be splayed out behind the brass washer. The screw in part holds the brass washer against the metal piece in the pick up.

If you remove the Bakelite from a pickup (K2F mag type shown), like the one on the left of the photo, you find a mazac skelton as on the right.

You would find similar in a magdyno pickup.
