Chrome Tank.

My Dec 1960 C15 is black with a chrome tank. I have tried to find out if the tank is standard or an option. Most bikes of that year have the plain tank with eyebrow, so is mine a "deluxe" or off another bike? Either way I like it.

I'm afraid I don't have a clue, Rick. But any photos would be interesting.  Phil

Hi,

I remember my 1965 B40, non-eyebrow tank, had a completely chrome tank but only after removing the paint.  I was 17 so can be excused.  The chrome was not as polished as the visible side parts but with a bit of elbow grease it came up really well.

Mightily impressive. Lovely looking bike.    Phil

Thanks Phil. I'm getting there. Just the front end to check over etc. Will be back on the case soon as been tinkering with other things.

Any more thoughts or comments please? I had been hoping for some tank related suggestions.

Am I the only one with a tank like this? I must say 99% of C15s I've seen for sale over the years have painted tanks.

Rupert

Reckon you may have a replacement tank from a later C15. The chrome non-eyebrow tank you have was introduced during 1962.
the two tanks are interchangeable, an easy swap.

Thanks. I did wonder that. I've also seen that the SS Star (1961) had a chrome tank and mine's a 61 model. Appreciate they have chrome mudguards though. My main thought was though, could it be standard? Either way, I prefer it.

Rupert

it's a standard C15 tank, so it looks right, even if it's from a later model. It's not 'standard' on your '61 model, but so what?
'61 SS80 had a chrome tank, but not the same one. It used a B40 tank which is larger and round badges.
Later SS80 used the same tank as yours from '62, from the same time as it was introduced for the C15 Star.

Thanks Rupert, that great, interesting and just what I wanted to know. If I understand correctly it's a 62 onwards and could be SS or C15.
