Is there a trick to putting new cork in the petcock? They seem too big,too tight to push/pull.hard to install

Soak them in boiling water first, this helps them to seal, then squeeze all the water out and they usually push in not easily but they go in undamaged.

When they start leaking again (a few years later) remove them and soak them again.

Hi Both,

I always use a bit of grease to gradually ease the new corks in.  It is important not to let them dry out once used so always keep a bit of fuel in the tank or take them out coat with grease and put back.  My corks last many years and thousands of miles and if they start leaking the 'first aid' of boiling sometimes works but they are cheap so just replace them.  Sometimes the tap/petcock can be worn after many years of use so a new one will be needed.
