 :) :) :)

Greetings. Over the years several posts have spoken of using carbs other than the standard Monobloc or concentric etc. I've seen Mikuni mentioned and probably others.

So--what would be a good/sensible carb to fit ? bearing in mind that mine is a standard single carb set up.

Hi Mike,
             SRM offer a Mikuni kit:

Not used it myself, I bought new from Amal which have been very successful.

Best wishes...

Good morning Mike,

I ran a 30mm concentric on my A65T more many miles until it was completely worn out.  At the time the better quality Premier Conc. carbs were not available so I fitted a 30mm Mikuni.  No problems from the off but I did swap the jets a bit.  Runs really well and after a good few miles no obvious wear.  More expensive but definitely better quality than the Amal at the time.
If, however, I was replacing a carb today I would probably go for the Premier Conc.  Cheaper probably just a good overall and more space for an air filter.

Dave.

the A50 chop came in from America last year with a Mikuni kit on, thought it was odd but seems a viable option nowadays

I would go for the standard 28mm Premier Concentric, which costs about £160 including vat, carriage etc. from Amal. Apart from being out of stock, the SRM Mikuni is £259 + Vat and shipping so close to double the price of the Amal. I'm not sure the improvement in performance etc. is worth the difference but that's up to the individual to decide. The Amal keeps the originality aswell.

HItchcocks  ( Enfield ) have some serious Amal experts, they will supply a new carb jetted for your bike. So helpful on the phone. I had a concentric on my A65. If the primary drillings are clear they are good to go.

Thanks gents.

I have actually purchased a Wassel concentric for the current bike. I'm just wondering which way to go with the bike that is in the very early stages.

I looked at the SRM site and can't sensibly justify that sorta price.

If it comes to a push then AMAL in Salisbury is only 15 miles down the road. I'll go and speak to them.

Thanks agen for your input

Due to the virus, I don't think they are taking visitors at the moment. Check the web site.

If you have purchased a wassel concentric then Amal will not help you.

Hi Guys.

I am about at least 6 months away from needing another carb so the shut down is not a concern.  I don't need assist with my wassel carb just thinking about the fiture

Thanks fo your replies

Call me a purist/rivet counter or whatever, but Amal stamp the correct number on the carb e.g 626/19 fir the Royal Star, which I find a nice finishing touch. Not all of the resellers do this. They just leave the 626/300 no. in place. At least future generations/owners will know it's the carb for that model.
As for Wassell, well anything with that name on it fills me with disappointment in advance! 50 years of experience with their pattern spares is hard to shake off.

I must confess to a niggling feeling of discomfort about this carb. Only time will tell but for a new item it is certainly not as good as expected.

A point about them in general, unknown at the time of purchase, is that they won't deal with the public. Only via anyone selling their parts. There is not even an address on the box. No phone No, no address and no email address.

So as I say I have niggling doubts. Perhaps someone with experience on this would care to comment

Further to this particular subject; I see there is a Hong Kong advertising something that looks extremely like a Monobloc---Anyone have any ideas?????
