Hi
Has anybody modified or know anyone that has modified the C15 centre stand to make it easier to use. ie welding on an arm like on a lot of bikes to use as a cantilever to stand on that lifts the bike on to stand.
What I need to know is what material the stand is made of. My thoughts are cast steel which is fine for welding. I can't see it being cast iron as it would be to brittle for a centre stand.

Not sure exactly what it is made of but I have welded mine to build up the stops.
Used standard steel wire in my mig welder with no problem.

Thanks for that. Would seem to confirm it is cast steel, as cast iron is very difficult to weld and needs specialised process.

Hi
I tried the same idea as a cantilever.
However we found the side stand was fouling.
I suppose you could fit to the right hand side but a bit awkward to use if you're right handed.
Just remembered their is a detailed article using a car handbrake style.
Not sure if it's on this forum though.
I will search for it if interested?

I found my B40 difficult to lift onto the centre stand so added a piece to apply foot pressure when lifting the bike. I used a striker from a tailgate (found in my scrap box) and drilled the side of the stand, then welded it to make absolutely secure. I just used a very basic DIY electric welder and it worked fine.
Yes it could be a little longer for my big feet, but then it would stick out further.

This topic came up for another bike, and I commented here: https://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/bsaoc_forum/index.php?topic=7699.msg37217#msg37217
I realise that one thing I didn't make clear there is that to gain leverage, the bit you push down on with your foot ends up sticking out towards the back of the bike when the bike is on the stand; it's somewhere near vertical when the stand is up.
