I am near 80, not very strong, but had NO trouble starting my B44, first kick every time. How?
I fitted a wire prong in my throttle stop screw, so I could easily adjust it to exact positions.
I found the right setting, which was a fast idle when the engine was warm.
I would turn on the fuel and tickle until the carb flooded. Then find the compression stroke on the kickstarter, and
with the valve lifter, move the engine just past the compression.
The a hefty swing on the lever to start the engine. I noticed another rider 'Kicking' the start lever with a bent leg.
This is OK for a small two stroke, but a four stroke needs that long swing, lifting your other leg off the ground
and your whole body weight on the start lever.
Great strength is not neened.

They're not all that bad Mick.

Mine starts about 4th, or 5th kick every time, without too much effort.

I make sure the throttle's shut down completely, tickle, find the compression stroke, operate the pressure relief lever and slowly move the kick start down to about horizontal, reload, switch on the ignition and give it a steady slow kick standing on my left leg mounted over the machine.  It fires up with a low repeated muffled turn over and then I ease up the throttle to a fast tick-over.

I know there are some around that start first time following this procedure.

When I'm amidst other bikers with new machines, they look on with anxiety when I start my B44R.  I'm still working on my procedure to try and get it to kick-up first time but I'd sooner kick my bike into action than push a button wouldn't you?
