Does anyone have any advice on how to stop a 289 pre monobloc carb flooding through the base of the jet block? The float chamber is bottom feed with a new needle and float. I have adjusted the position of the float chamber but the problem persists. Before I give up with the carb and buy a monobloc,  I have thought of trying to use some fine grinding paste between the float needle and float chamber, has anyone had any luck doing this? Or can anyone suggest others ideas/cures.

If it's flooding from the base of the jet block the problem isn't with the float but rather the union between the float chamber and the carb. I used wet sandpaper on a flat surface to make both the bottom of the carb and the sealing surfaces of the float chamber as smooth as possible. I was also getting leaks from between the nut where the float chamber is mounted and the carb, some sealant and a new gasket fixed that.

My experience with the pre monobloc was that it always wants to leak but with enough persistence it can be cured.

Thank you for your advice. I stripped the carburettor down again and cleaned everything out, but this did not solve the problem. However after playing with the position of the float chamber the flooding stopped, so its looks like the problem is solved. I have noticed the pre monobloc carbs do have an overwhelming desire to leak from any where they can.
