Starfire gearbox emulsion

My project for next winter has just arrived. It is a Starfire. The gearbox is full of some grey emulsion - which makes sense as the gearbox plastic filler/dipstick is distorted and only balanced in position - so my guess is rain has got in there.

I won't have time to start working on the bike for at least six months, but to stop any damage to the gearbox getting worse I want to get the sludge out and something good in there. And this need to be by using the drain plug orifice and the filler plug orifice. Does anyone have any ideas what fluid I could use to flush the emulsion out?  WD40 had crossed my mind - it disperses moisture. Engine oil or gearbox oil are other thoughts.

Diesel is good as you can flush it through a few times and while its thin enough to get everywhere it still leaves a film.  Then refill with some clean oil and spin it over to coat everything.

Hi,

If possible spin the gear box with the diesel in there so it gets in every where and then, as already said, put some oil in there and spin it to get the oil in everywhere.
