Hello all,

I am rebuilding a B25 1969 variety. Its fun in a weird way... :0)

Am I the only one to have difficulty fitting the "star" Kickstart lock washer to the end of the gearbox main shaft? It holds in the ratchet and spring under the main shaft nut? I think it is part: 40-3257

I put on the first ratchet that keys into the main shaft groves. Then the spacer tube, then the second ratchet gear and then the spring. But when I try to fit the lock washer (with internal splines)t will not engage. I have tried several lock washers from several sources. I now note that some are flat and some have the internal splines bent vertically. No idea which should work

All comments welcomed.

I have original BSA washers which fit. PM me if interested.

I have pointed this manufacturing error out to suppliers before. They obviously dont care as they are still supplying the incorrectly made ones.

I had the same poor after market QC on c15 crank rotor lock washers .
The I'd was incorrect.

Hello Rupert. How can I take advantage of your offer? I have sent a message direct. I would like a washer, please!

Anticipation... Lets see if this cures the problem. Then I can screw the outer cover on.

Excellent. I have fitted the washer and torqued up the kickstart ratchet nut. All looks just like the manual!
My thanks to Rupert for his help in supplying the part.

Happy to help. It just beggars belief that the suppliers of modern pattern parts somehow think the similar but larger lock washer for an A65 will somehow fit...

There is a better option for this poor design.
Glue the nut in place and use this washer to control the spring.
The washer is hard and will not be eaten by the pinion bush.
