Sealed gearbox bearings?

Hi there.

I'm rebuilding a Starfire engine and been shopping the gearbox bearings.

Draganfly show a sealed bearing

I didn't realise that you can use sealed bearings for this. Has anyone done it?

This plastic bit could be removed.
I have used sealed bearings in my gearbox and engine.
Removed seals on the side where there is oil...and leave other side to have no leaks....or remove both sides....as you wish
Not an expert! But made it with help of this forum

Or leave both seals in place and protect the bearing from all the swarf inevitably floating around in the gearbox.

I leave the outer seal but remove the inner.
Bearings have higher load and speed ratings in oil vs grease.
Regular changes are the solution to swarf (at least IMO).

Such bearings usually work 24/7/365 in plant and machinery, and there's not a Bantam on this planet that is used that much, so oil vs grease doesn't really apply.
People will do what they think is best though.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Seems a good idea to use them for additional oil tightness!

I am assuming the bearing in question is the outer main shaft bearing which has an oil seal in the outer case. If so personally I would remove both seals and rely on the oil seal in the case as BSA intended for the following reasons, I would want my bearings lubricated as intended with gearbox oil also more importantly oilseals have to be lubricated otherwise friction on the shaft will cause them to fail so eventually you will be relying solely on the seal in the bearing. I have only ever use sealed bearings on front and rear wheels.
