Hi all.
I'm in the final throws of my d1 plunger direct lighting rebuild project. May I ask for any ideas on my final ( hopefully) problem with it.
Try as I may I could not get a reliable spark even after buying new coil. So as I do, I changed system to an external 6v coil and 6v battery ( placed in tool box) with a on, off switch. My question is can I use the remaining two coils near the points to charge the battery ? Before working on motorcycles I kept myself busy restoring classic cars . So I know my way about mechanics and most electrical system but I'm a bit confused with this little problem. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi,
Don't know if you got this sorted but the short answer is yes.
You will need to regulate and rectify the output though.
BSA (or rather Wipac) did move to an external ignition coil replacing the magneto coil with a charging coil and two lighting coils.
On my own Bantam I run the three coils into a reg/rec and thence to the battery.
