I am presuming if you RTV/Loctite 5990 both pipe and head socket....that one needs to do it sparingly. Being a bit cautious, I was thinking just put on pipe as should have less risk of sealant getting into engine.....but I gues a bit more likelihood of not sealing. will have to see the pipe/head when out and look for any obvious wear marks/ovalness.

Question/ If I have a small air leak, should it be obvious and audible ?

The bike is very loud, but not obviously from the head ( ignoring the tappet rattle...which I need to reset to see if I can reduce)....I'm guessing there is no air leak at the head, but the baffles are ineffective due to age. But seems sensible to take it off whatever/check over.

I confess to using clear bathroom sealer on these slide on or in joints.
It serves to let the carbon build up and self seal.
Never a problem

Belt and braces, if you dont have one fit an exhaust rose. It will stick to the RTV and seal it in and prevent the pipe from moving side to side in the exhaust port.
