Something does not look right in your "after" photo.

Compare with the photo posted by Bess and your "before" photo.

Looks like your kickstart lever is going to be leaning forward.

Is the kickstart quadrant stop still in position?

HI I found the method that suits me is as mentioned just a piece of cord and a strong pull. I also offer up a prayer in which most words appear to begin with "F"

Oops!  :-[
Because things were still not very good, I decided to remove the inner G/B cover.
JulianS, I'm so glad you mentioned the K/S stop, the dowel was in my box of stuff to fit imminently.
Now that the stop is fitted, everything is ok.
I can now fit the proper spring.
I see now why the plate tag will not be at 12 o'clock.
It will be around 4-5 o'clock.

Its back together now, but i'm still not very chuffed with that spring.
Seems too large to me, but that was the one sent to me.
