Hi peeps - have connected the oil pipe block to the bottom of the motor but have a persistent slow drip coming from the joint. It's as if the 2 O rings are slightly too thin in section to seal properly. Is this a known phenomenon? Irritating as I'm close to completion...

Thanks

I'd say it is. I still have a small leak there after careful o-ring selection and installation.
The manual explicitly says not to use any sealant but I say do what you have to do.

Well I have to say, if it is a 'phenomenon' it's one I'm much too familiar with...

I thought i'd pretty much finished my (non oil in frame) Lightning project, even had a go at starting it.

That was when the engine oil decided to do a 'great escape'. (I've, well not me but the bike, has three quarters filled a large pot noodle pot with oil over the last four weeks or so)

I've had excellent information from the good folk on this site, and I'm waiting for a three pipe oil manifold (off eBay) then, I'm going to change the timing case gasket (possible suspect), insert new 'O' rings in- and fit the manifold.

...And see what happens then.

You might get some additional info if you check out my last couple of posts.

I have to see I think the 'O' rings could do with being slightly thicker....

Good luck with yours.

one thing to make sure is the small joint face and the face of the pipe connector are both flat, there is a tendency to damage the small face on the cases when building and moving around on the bench. a use a fine stone to clean the faces, then a light scrape to remove any burr around the  o ring recesses.

another solutiom would be to drill out the case and connector to fit hollow dowels. i ve done this with my a10 plunger  but early assembly stage.

Put in a gasket as well as the seals, and "seal" it with grease.

Hi,

If you put a gasket in then the 'O' rings may not actually do anything as they may not be compressed enough if at all.  Originally the gasket must have proved problematic hence the change to 'O' rings.  I would, as Chaz said, make sure the surfaces are clean and flat and fit new 'O' rings each time.  A bit of Hylomar may be of benefit but not too much.  I just use the 'O'rings.

I take that point about the rings and gasket together. Though I must admit to using a smidgen of sealant with it.
