Restoring a '71 Lightning, back wheel/hub/brake looked OK externally but noticed the brake cam was sticking too far out of the hub. On teardown discovered that the inner "washer" is entirely missing from the cam. More worryingly it's not in the drum so must have been removed and the bike ridden like that. It pays to check...
